Ethical Principles for Medical Research

The Journal of Sport Biomechanics is committed to promoting the highest standards of ethical conduct in research involving human participants, animals, and identifiable human data or biological materials.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that all research submitted to the journal has been conducted in accordance with internationally accepted ethical principles and applicable national regulations.
The journal's policies have been developed with reference to internationally recognized ethical guidelines, including:
• World Medical Association (WMA) Declaration of Helsinki – Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Participants
• International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) Recommendations
• Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices
Research Involving Human Participants
Studies involving human participants must have received prior approval from an appropriately constituted institutional or national Research Ethics Committee.
Authors should report in the manuscript:
• The name of the approving ethics committee;
• The ethics approval number or code (where applicable);
• A statement confirming that the study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and relevant national regulations.
Informed Consent
For research involving human participants, authors must confirm that informed consent was obtained from all participants before enrollment.
For participants under the legal age of consent or individuals unable to provide informed consent, permission must be obtained from a parent, guardian, or legally authorized representative.
When photographs, videos, or other potentially identifiable information are included, specific written consent for publication must also be obtained.
Research Involving Animals
Studies involving animals must comply with institutional, national, and internationally accepted guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals.
Authors should clearly indicate that appropriate ethical approval was obtained and that every effort was made to minimize animal suffering.
Privacy and Confidentiality
Authors must protect the privacy and confidentiality of research participants.
Personally identifiable information should not be included in manuscripts unless publication is scientifically justified and explicit written permission has been obtained.
Clinical Trial Registration
Prospective clinical trials are encouraged to be registered in a publicly accessible clinical trial registry before the enrollment of the first participant.
Where applicable, the registration number should be reported in the manuscript.
Reporting Ethical Approval
All manuscripts reporting research involving humans or animals should include an Ethical Considerations section describing:
