Abstract:   (25 Views)
Objective Pronated foot posture is a common lower-limb condition. This study aimed to investigate the effects of running-induced fatigue on plantar pressure variables during walking in overweight men with pronated feet.
Methods In this quasi-experimental pretest–posttest study, 40 male students aged 18–35 years were recruited through convenience sampling and assigned to four groups based on body weight (normal: 20 ≤ BMI < 25 kg/m²; overweight: 25 ≤ BMI ≤ 35 kg/m²) and foot posture (normal: navicular drop 5–10 mm, foot posture index 0–6; pronated: navicular drop 10–19 mm, foot posture index >10–12). Plantar loading was assessed using a Footscan system. Data were analyzed using two-way repeated-measures ANOVA following the Shapiro–Wilk normality test (P < 0.05)..
Results Fatigue reduced first metatarsal force and increased medial and lateral heel force and pressure (P < 0.05). Significant group differences were found in plantar force distribution across the metatarsals, midfoot, and heel (P < 0.05). Midfoot force was greater in overweight participants with pronated feet, whereas first and second metatarsal forces were greater in overweight participants with normal feet. A significant fatigue × group interaction was observed for hallux peak force (P < 0.001), but not for plantar pressure variables.
Conclusion Running-induced fatigue may alter plantar loading patterns during walking, particularly by increasing heel loading. Body weight status and foot posture may also be associated with differences in plantar force and pressure distribution, especially in the midfoot. However, the effects of fatigue were generally comparable across the study groups.
